Like Lucette

Like dreams adrift in a no-wake zone,
the butterfly effect avoids scrutiny
when to observe is to touch.
“We need to have that conversation,” you said.

We’re allowed to multitask in the dark.
At least that was my understanding.
The sheets breathe the breeze,
a redintigrative sigh of summer.

The buzz of lawn care, distant cicadas,
swarm and rise in the morning. Fall.
Someone brings the blessing, but who.
A seagull flying straight at you, or away.
